Palmer Lake declares water emergency
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Palmer Lake Board of Trustees passed a resolution declaring a water emergency and imposing Stage One Emergency Water Restrictions.
On Thursday, Aug. 13, the Board of Trustees passed Resolution No. 30 – 2026, which declared a water emergency and imposed Stage One Emergency Water Restrictions.
According to the Resolution, the town’s Water System Superintendent advised the Mayor and Town Staff that the yield of one of its wells is declining, that Monument Creek has been dry since the middle of June 2026, that there is no flow from the Glen Park Reservoir, and that another of the Town’s wells is not enough to satisfy current demand.
The Superintendent also stated they believe there is a leak somewhere in the Town’s distribution system and has engaged a lead detection crew to survey the Town.
Because of this information, the Board of Trustees found that a water emergency existed and that reducing demand was needed to preserve the Town’s water supply for domestic use, sanitation, and fire protection, and that restrictions are necessary.
The Resolution states that irrigation of landscaped areas is permitted only on Wednesdays between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and this schedule applies to all users of the Town’s water systems regardless of whether the building is odd-numbered or even-numbered. Consistent with the city’s municipal code on water restrictions, irrigation of landscaped areas with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is prohibited at all times, and irrigation during the permitted period can be done only by means of a faucet-filled bucket or watering can of five gallons or less.
The duration of water restrictions will continue until the Board of Trustees modifies or terminates the Resolution.
